tag Copyright Advice

Introduction is for completely original music created by you i.e. you and/or your band owns the copyright.

Copyright gives the creators of completely original music, exclusive rights to control ways their material can be used. Copyright protects creative or artistic works and you should only copy or use a copyrighted work with the copyright owner's permission.

You should not upload music to if you are not the copyright owner, or in the case of a band with several members, have permission from all copyright owners.

This includes samples, covers and remixes which contain copyrighted material to which you do not own that copyright.

Copyright - Worldwide.

Copyright protection and rules do vary depending on your country and the national copyright law that applies. It is your responsibility to make sure you are aware and understand your countries copyright law.

For example, in the UK there is no formal registration of copyright required. When you create an original piece of work and it is executed i.e. recorded or written down, copyright is automatically created.

The Musicians Union and the Mechanical Copyright Protection Society (MCPS) have extra information of how you can protect your material.

For the US check out t
he United States Copyright Office website which takes you through the basics and also has a FAQ section.

For Counties in the European Union, the
Commission Website has useful information and up to date news on copyright issues.

For other countries, check out the
World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) website which contains lists and links to Copyright Offices internationally.
