Sharon Rose

iZMO: Soul
Sub iZMO: Christian Soul

Make no mistake, Essex-based singer songwriter Sharon Rose is about to be huge and by all counts she deserves to be. With her new single L.O.V.E launching 6th of July 2009, this 20-year-old girl, with an incredible old school meets popular culture sound, is on the verge of superstar status.

Born in Zimbabwe, Sharon Rose has been in love with music from as far back as she can remember. Growing up the third of four children in a musical family (both Sharon's parents are singers); Sharon has always felt a special connection with music. "I firmly believe that God wrote it in the stars for me to make music," she says. "As a young girl I always dreamt of being a singer and performing in front of thousands and even millions of people. I've always felt it in my heart that making music was my thing."

She was about six years old the first time she performed in public (at a church event) and it was then that the Southend girl knew that she was born to do this. "From a very young age, my parents encouraged all four of us to pursue our music," she says. "But they also encouraged us to do something else academically as a back up plan, but music always came first."

Performing in church helped hone her talent and it wasn't long before she was performing at musical concerts, talent shows and in school productions like Grease and The Matchstick Girls. Since then, she has been on a roll; teaching herself to write songs and releasing her debut album, 'Self Titled', independently in 2007.

Now aged 20 and with a string of live performances at concerts and events under her belt, Sharon is an exciting, lovable and daring artist here to challenge the status quo. Her small frame is an utter deception of her rich, soulful voice. Her songs are somewhat contemporary, filled with deep-rooted connotations that borders on the cusp of popular culture and religion.

With a fun mix of R&B, jazz, soul, rock, funk and 80's pop, Sharon's sound is fresh and invigorating. Often compared to the likes of Beyonce and Jill Scott, Sharon is very much a relevant artist for her generation.

"I don't just want to make feel-good music that has no substance," she says. "I want people to be inspired, encouraged and empowered by my songs. I want them to listen and know that it's something they've never heard before but that it's daring, catchy and helps them feel like they can touch the sky."
Embracing her musical influences (her mother Veronica Nyarambi and popular recording artists Cece Winans, Kim Burrell, Coldplay, Beyonce, Lauryn Hill, Jill Scott, India Arie and Robyn), Sharon's songs brings her beautiful voice and art of storytelling to the table.

With credit to her creative talent and her amazing production team (Tonifie, Boogie and Gory), L.O.V.E is a super fun and universally appealing pop offering that brings thoughts of summer to mind. At the spiritual and emotional helm of the song is a lyrical honesty that redefines the concept of love; a far cry from the commercialised version of love driven by selfish desires and ambitions.

"Love is a song for everyone that has ever been in love," says Sharon. "It's a song of significance, you know, because a lot of people think that love is based on how you feel. But love is more than a feeling. Love is selfless, pure and beautiful in every way. The beauty of love is that it bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things and it never fails. There's a greater love and I hope people will strive for unconditional love after hearing L.O.V.E."

Love, faith, youth culture and the pursuit of deep-lasting happiness form the core of Sharon's sophomore album, still untitled, out in Spring 2010. In between performances all over the country, including appearances at the Pigalle Club (Piccadilly Circus) and The Brixton Jamm, Sharon is currently in the studio recording her new album and getting ready for life in the limelight.

Get ready to welcome her; a new voice is here to stay and in today's climate, Sharon Rose is a breath of fresh air.
