Razvan Albu

iZMO: Rock
Sub iZMO: Pop Rock

Razvan began singing at a very early age. However, it wasn't until he listened to Nirvana's Unplugged in New York show, sometime in 1996, that he picked up guitar for the first time. Once that happened, there was no turning back. Razvan first recorded his songs on a 4-track; they were basic arrangements, involving drums, bass, acoustic and electric guitar tracks, and a single vocal track.

As time passed the music evolved and by 2001 so many recordings had been made that Razvan put out his first album, Dreams, to great critical acclaim. A live show, which took place at Kelly's Korner (a small Toronto venue) preceded the album's release. Public appearances followed, but it wasn't until 2006 that the artist recorded any new material.

Starting with September 2006 and all the way until July 2007, Razvan recorded 7 new tracks at his home studio in Bucharest, Romania. The material took long to complete because the artist wrote all the songs and lyrics, did all the musical arrangements and recorded all the instruments himself. When asked why he did not involve session musicians in the project, Razvan replied that he wanted complete creative control over the new material. The album, all in Romanian and entitled "Jocuri Fara Nume" ("Games Without Names"), was mixed at Bias Studios, mastered at Cue Recording in Virginia, USA, and was released independently by the artist. Given the strength of the new material as well as good publicity, all 10.000 copies sold within a few weeks.

Thereafter, the album became available online as a free download on Razvan's official homepage. TV, radio and live appearances followed. Razvan earned the special jury's prize during a music festival (Aurelian Andreescu), made live appearances at the "Om Bun" and ASE music festivals, and received strong airplay on Romanian radio stations. A 2-hour program was dedicated solely to the artist on Radio3Net and the Romanian national radio station; Razvan performed 3 (acoustic) tracks live and spoke about his music and influences. At the same time, the artist insisted that none of the tracks would be relased as singles, since he didn't want the material to become too commercial.

Currently Razvan is working on new tracks, which he says will involve a slight shift in musical style. Stay tuned for updates from a great artist!
