Early beginnings

Nicotine was formed in 2005 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It was started by Ben Klein and Elias Noland with the intention to become the biggest rock band in the world. The band went through a series of bass players before settling on one and in 2004 began playing live under the name 'The New Vain.' By 2006 The New Vain became quite popular locally and was approached by a minor record label to record a full length record. That record was released in 2007.

Nicotine is born

The New Vain toured throughout Canada but quickly found the market to be “too small” for the goals and aspirations of the band. It was decided that a bigger market needed to be found and in the summer of 2008 the band was relocated to Manchester, England. Once in England Rob Barstow and Adam Jenkins were quickly added to the line-up, forming a new four piece band known as Nicotine.

Nicotine is inimitable in the fact that it is half-Canadian, half-English. With the Canadian half of the band bringing in influences such as: Guns N' Roses, Smashing Pumpkins, and Nirvana, and the English side bringing influences such as Pink Floyd, Radiohead, and Led Zeppelin, the resulting sound is noticeably large and unique. Nicotine has the huge and heavy riffs of a dirty rock and roll band yet still manages to write the catchy and melodic songs so prevalent in the UK music scene.
