DESPISE & CONQUER have been established in June2008. The bands' name, to prevent rumours, is not a variation of a well-known computer game, but of the English equivalent "divide & conquer" to the Latin "divide et impera".

DESPISE & CONQUER has originally been planned as a studio project by the former Ninnghizhidda and Eternal Dirge keyboardist Sascha Risseler, in which Mario Bergermann (ex-Paranoiz, guit) and Henning Lanczek (a.o. ex-Ninnghizhidda, drums) should take part. After the sudden Paranoiz split-up, Andre Saborowski (bass, voc), Udo Erwig (voc) and Daniel Stoeckner (ex-Stormgarde) joined in and the project developed into a real band. Regarding the members various and long-time background, the musical direction was predetermined: METAL!!! Therefore, the band insists on being defined without the, nowadays usual, sub-categories.

In the end of October 2008, the first song "Resistance Is Futile" was posted online in an instrumental version on the bands' myspace profile. The complete version (produced by Sascha Risseler at Total Recall Studios) is online since December 2008. Both versions received very positive reactions from metal fans and musicians. "Resistance Is Futile" is also featured on the European Underground Sampler Vol. 2. In January 2009, two more songs ("Die For Something" and "Casting Skin") have been recorded. The 3 track promo cd has been mastered by Dan Swano at Unisound Studios and was released in March 2009. Due to their partly common past and in addition to own material, the band also presents the songs "Moonlight Serenade" (Ninnghizhidda) and "Myself Unleashed" (Paranoiz) live on stage.
